8th Annual Aging Healthy in the RGV Sumit

Wednesday, March 26, 2025 / 9:00 am - 1:30 pm /  Brownsville Events Center

Now in its 8th year, our annual summit focuses on educating older adults and their caregivers about aging well in the Rio Grande Valley (“Fiesta de Salud”) and raising awareness of aging-related health topics and policy issues. The event unites municipal and county leaders, businesses, educators, public health officials, and the public. Together, we’ll explore healthy aging in Brownsville and the lower Rio Grande Valley, as well as how it impacts community livability, local economies, and overall wellness.

Healthy Communities of Brownsville, Inc., is working to improve the health of our aging population in the Rio Grande Valley in partnership with Empowered, the WellMed Foundation, UTRGV, the City of Brownsville Parks & Recreation Department, WellMed, ROCA, and other community organizations. Together, we have formed the Senior Advocacy Coalition, a dedicated group of individuals and businesses, to addresses key aging issues such as Alzheimer’s, mental health, social engagement, heart-healthy exercise, and family caregiver resources.

Presenters include UTRGV's Dr. Gladys Maestre and Dr. Zelma Mata, the Area Agency for Aging Regional Director Margarita Lopez,  and Robert Obregon of the Better Business Bureau Senior Scam & Fraud Prevention Department.
